During the relationship with my ex-bf, I once drove by his house and saw a Ford Escort station wagon with an infant seat in the back parked in front of his house. He explained it away the next day saying that he had picked up some extra cash by repairing it. He knew how to work on cars, so I thought that was a reasonable explanation.
A few months later the subject of that car came up again and he gave a completely different story. I immediately got upset because I knew that wasn't what he had told me before. I told him that his story didn't match up. He informed me that either we drop it or we were breaking up. He basically said that he wouldn't tolerate me not believing him. He had no feeling for how hurtful it was to me.
I still can't believe that I put up with it and how cold he was about it. It has always bothered me.
What are Ns thinking when they know they are caught in a lie?
