I beleive these 12 Characteristics were developed by the 12 Step Program Adult Children Anonymous. It is a stem group from Alanon. Alanon members came to realise that children who grew up in alcoholic homes often had some or all of these characteristics in common. The program was originally named Adult Children of Alcoholics. Eventually they changed it to Adult Children Anonymous because they came to realise that these characteristics applied to children who came from other types of disfunctional families, such as overly religious families, military families, etc. where the child was shamed. There are a lot of books available on Adult Children. Some good ones I have enjoyed are written by John Bradshaw, but there are many good authors on the subject.

I have ordered a book by John Bradshaw, "Healing----Shame" (arrrggggggghh cannot remember the title just now.)
I really loook forward to reading it!
