Here's some tips we've passed along to members.

In your messages, use a different location, age, name/sex of children/pet/ and please use a member name which is vague and non gender specific - ie copperpenny, hydrogensilver, that kind of thing (think animal, vegetable, mineral)

The use of a different location, age etc. will likely not affect your message content, but it will point the identity away from you.

There is ofen a tendency for newer members to misunderstand or be unaware of the potential for violence with their N or P partners

I'd like to add that there are literally dozens and dozens of members who are displaying their email addresses. Not only can the members here see your address, so can the general public (a guest that doesn't log in). This practice is frowned upon here, because of the nature of this message board and the potential for our members to be targeted.

To stop displaying your email address, go to Profile (near the top of the page). Then, in the 3rd section down in your profile, click in "NO" to opt to not display your email address.

The same holds true about displaying your IM account. Just simply take that information out of your profile.

We are very concerned for the safety of all members and urge all to please be more careful giving out personal information.

For those who share a computer and are concerned that someone will find you on this message board (or trace any website you visit), I offer the following:

Don't elect the option to log in automatically each time you visit the site. To clear that option, log out and then log back in, but don't select the log in automatically option.

Clear your web browser's cache of information often. Clear the information after you visit the board if you need to. You do this, in Internet Explorer, by going up to Tools, then select Delete Browsing History.

In Mozilla Firefox, you can set it up to always clear information every time you leave the program.

The above described methods of erasing your tracks won't work if you have computer savvy people who have access to your computer, but it can help if others are just curious. In order to cover your tracks from the more computer savvy "snoop", there are programs you'll need to purchase that will do a better job of "deleting" information from the various areas Windows stores the information.
