Sam

I have always wondered what psychological profile compulsive talkers have. Although I believe, in general, women talk about twice as much as men, I can think of 3 past female compulsive talkers I have met and 3 past male compulsive talkers I have met. These compulsive takers are perfectly capable of rattling on talking about anything and everything (although usually themselves) for an hour at a time and rarely allowing others to get a word in edgeways. I can't remember anyone ever having the nerve to tell these compulsive talkers to belt up. These compulsive talkers seem to somehow keep their audience.

Obviously there is an element of narcissism and attention seeking here but I think it might be tied in with Histrionic Personality Disorder. I have just done a bit of Googling on "Compulsive Talkers" and it seems to be a common sympton of ADHD.

Can you shed any light on this ?

Thanks

David

They are equally astounded when they are abandoned or shunned by spouses, friends, colleagues, the media, their fans, or audiences.

I feel entitled to more. I feel it is my right - due to my intellectual superiority - to lead a thrilling, rewarding, kaleidoscopic life. I feel entitled to force life itself, or, at least, people around me - to yield to my wishes and needs, supreme among them the need for stimulating variety.

Narcissists (and, often, by contagion, their unfortunate victims) don't talk, or communicate. They fend off. They hide and evade and avoid and disguise. In their planet of capricious and arbitrary unpredictability, of shifting semiotic and semantic dunes - they perfect the ability to say nothing in lengthy, Castro-like speeches.
