Music= Good For the Soul!

Postby WindSong » Mon Feb 12, 2007 1:51 am

Almost all of you know that music is my life and my dealing mechanism in my life. When I am down I throw a CD on that I love and my stress melts away.

I love Paul Simon, and Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys. I love the sixties music. I listen all the time and I love to jam. My mother says at fifteen I learned what jamming was and I have never stopped since!

And she's right!

This weekend I bought my youngest son the Fray CD How To Save A Life which was also a song used in one of my TOP favorite shows Grey's Anatomy. I burned me a copy and we've both been listening this weekend. Jakie has inherited my love of music and listens ALL THE TIME!!!!!!

So who here loves music and what do you like to listen to?

Well, it's almost easier to list what I don't like, lol. I don't do Rap and I don't do heavy metal. A little bit of jazz and country is ok, depending.

I love big, powerful singers like Celine Dion, Josh Groban, Barbra Streisand, and several operatic singers. I got a bit burned out on 60's music, that's all the P would listen to, but still tap my toe or sing along with a few of them. Lets hear it for Paul Simon! Music of the 70's, 80's and 90's is great for the most part, especially the popular stuff I used to dance to and sing along. I like all kinds of classical. I like Celtic, Gregorian Chants, some types of folk music and lots of music from Africa and Polynesa. I like some, I'm not sure what it's called really...... digital music, if it's soothing.

That's not all, but that's enough :)

HEY LEMON!

I loveeeeeeee to talk music!
Now you say that you like African music? Ever heard of Ladysmith Black Mambazo???/ They were on Paul's Graceland music! If you really like and/or Paul, watch this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPT_Gi7- ... ed&search=

That is my absoloute favorite thing to watch on youtube! Graceland is my second favorite album of all time...... next to Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys!

I respect your love of classical music, but it's just not my cup of tea! I hate rap too, and my second son has decided this is his preferred type of music.

Oh ya! Graceland! LOVE IT! Had the tape, hope to get it back someday. Ladysmith Black Mambazo is great, they helped make Graceland what it was/is.

I forget the name of the movie with Whoopi Goldberg, but I had the soundtrack from that, too. It took place in Africa. Oh, Sarafina! (I had to go Google that one) :)

I'll go listen to your link, thanks!

OH WOW LEMON!!!! GREAT STUFF!!!
I love The Moody Blues, Fleetwood Mac and OH LORD that version of Pretty Woman!!!!! I recognized several people in that video! I had seen it before about half of it on TV when my mother called me up to watch it. I saw the Boss of course and Elvis Costello and I swear that looked like Jackson Browne standing next to Bruce. I know all of the guitar players on there are big guys I just couldn't recognize who they are. I'm sure I know them, but couldn't place them! It's a great tribute to Roy though and I'll definitely watch them again!

You Tube is a music lovers dream if you like to watch live performances!

Poor Lindsay tho, geez he doesn't sound much like himself anymore but Stevie did and I enjoyed that! Poor Mac tho, He's a huge dude!! And the Moody Blues! That was awesome! I love their later stuff much better than the early stuff!

I sure had fun watching that tho! I've watched just about all of the Paul Simon stuff, and I didn't much care for most of the Brian Wilson stuff as most of it you can see is booted video with poor quality!

Let me know what else you find on there! I just love You Tube!

And email when you want and I'll send you Graceland through email!

OH and I had to edit this because I forgot to tell you- Um HELL YAH I love to Jam!!!!
My house is the only house in the whole US I bet where the KIDS tell the PARENT to turn it down maaaaaaaa!!!!!!!! LOLOLOL!!!!!!

I like to turn my TV to a channel (51 here) that plays beautiful instrumentals only. The range is from everywhere to classical. It calms me so much.

I haven't cried for 16 years.

I expect I need a good cry. This music is the closest that brings me to a point of 'crying for beautiful/happy'--not sad--just for the beauty of it all.

I too am a music nut! I'm mostly rock & roll, my favourite periods being the late 60s to 70s and the grunge years: late 80s, early 90s. I also tinker in jazz and like metal, indie rock, hip-hop. I love to talk music!

I must try to avoid listening to so much angry music and concentrate on the "nice" stuff. I'm currently listening to Devendra Banhart, very calming! My other favourite "calm" music is Coldplay. I never thought I'd like Coldplay but I saw an interview on TV featuring Chris Martin and I liked him so I checked out his music. It contains some of the sweetest songwriting I've heard and brings out the "lovelier" side of me, the better side!

I LOVE most types of music. My husband brought back some music from Iraq that I just LOVE! My least favorite music is country music...I cannot stand twangy voices, nasal tones, or much of the content of the lyrics (singing about dead cows and and lost marriages, however I do like Garth Brookes)...I know, not all of it is that way, but I have to listen to that crap all day, everyday at work because my boss likes it...by the end of the day the songs are seared in my brain and I hear them in my sleep. When she gets distracted or leaves, I often turn it down or off just to give my brain a break! Usually, upon her realization it's off or down, she will turn it back on. It used to be on the other side of the building, which was much better for me cuz I didn't have to suffer!!!!

Anyway, my favorite genre is rock. My current favorite album is Chris Daughtry's new album. It is great!!! My second favorite album within this decade is Evanessence's "Fallen." My favorite all time artist is Elton John. My favorite band is Led Zeppelin...love the blues and rock mixture....cuz I love blues music! I also like some Rap...not gobs...like Tupac's Me Against the World and Chamillionaires Sound of Revenge. On the opposite side of the spectrum, I love classical music.

To add to this post, I also am a movie buff and like most genres...including musicals.

Well, that's it for now. Hope this post finds you doing well today!!!! Take care my friends and have a great day!

Tee,
I had a boyfriend in high school who looked like Jackson Browne, only taller...he was a hottie!! I have to admit (and I hate to because you love him so much but), I don't care too much for Paul Simon, but I absolutely loved him and Art Garfunkel together.....they were da bomb together...I kinda feel the same way about Paul McCartney...I don't like his music alone, but I LOVED him with the Beatles....I liked John Lennon though, with or without the Beatles....sad day when he died....

Well Sweetie, to each his own right? S&G together were awesome but as most groups are awesome but they are volatile. S&G surprisingly broke up over Bridge Over Troubled Water-creative differences......... The Beatles disbanded over creative differences- The Beach boys- creative differences. Most cases are the better they get the more they fight.

Jackson Browne held it together because he was by himself lol!

And I agree about Macca. I thought that he wrote and did silly love songs by himself lol He worked together better with his music soulmate Lennon!

Some times in music there is a magical thing, but most of the time the artists mucked it up for sure!
