I have walked two marathons for charity. It was a wonderful experience. Large charitable organization who sponsor this type of training break down the training for you, and you train along side others.
I made some good friends training. Trust me, after all the walking we did, we learned things about each other that we hadn't even shared with close friends and family. I did both marathons at large high-profile marathons, so I ended up meeting other walkers and runners from across the globe. More than anything though, if you can't sort something out in your mind in 26.2 miles, I don't know that it can be sorted out.
Wonderful stress reliever and confidence builder.

Thanks MovedOn.
If you don't mind me asking, when you said that you couldn't walk, can you not walk at all or just not the long-distance walking? Sorry if I am being nosey.
Since my daughter was born, I can't run, or sneeze, etc. I wanted to run a marathon, but my body just won't let me do that.

I was in church last Sunday and the pastor was asking us, at the end of his sermon (which is podcast live on the internet by the way), he was asking us to repeat a bible quote after him.
Romans 8:28 - And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
The pastor teased us for merely murmuring our responses. Then one young man in the upper level (it's a BIG church) yelled out: GOD WORKS FOR THE GOOD OF THOSE WHO LOVE HIM, WHO HAVE BEEN CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE!
The pastor called the young man down to the stage (it's a modern church) and asked him to lead us in prayer. This man said he was a wreck, he was just a dirty old rag, but then Jesus said to him: "I can do a lot with a rag. I can clean up."
I still cry when I think on this.
At the end of the service he asked the pastor if he could say one more thing. The pastor granted his request without hesitation. The young man took the microphone and said when he was 24 he was in a car accident. Then he pulled up his baggy pantleg and showed us his right leg, saying, "I have a steel plate in this leg." He showed us his left leg, saying, "I have 2 pins in this leg. The doctors said I would never walk again." Then he put down the mic.
He jumped to the side, and crouched down to the floor and started break-dancing, spinning around and around and leaping into the air. It was quite a shock, let me tell you! Then he picked up the mic and said, "But Jesus told me I could DANCE!"
Whether you are religous or spiritual or not makes no matter to me. MovedOn, I want to see you turn on the music and DANCE! _________________ It is absolutely necessary for you to seek to obtain genuinely accurate insight and understanding. Then you can travel freely anywhere and avoid being confused by the common sort of spiritual charmer.

| I walk a lot and it is an incredible stress relief... I think it is the best, together with talking to people who understand and know about 'our' types of situations...
