This is a true story. I got the bites and scratches on my arms to prove it!

What do you do when you have a long haired tabby sweet little monster who happens to have tail hairs too? Furthermore what do you do when he doesn't know properly how to clean himself up and then you get matted poop on his tail hairs?

I've contemplated this, talked to everyone I know and put it off cause he's sore down there.

So I get a pair of hair clippers thinking taking the guard off would take care of it. Dad and I try this and dad panics and runs. Kitty poo makes him nautious. I try to hold him down myself and do it and the tasmanian devil showed up in his place and I got bitten.

I call the pet groomers and set up for him to be sedated and shaved. I don't want to do this not because of the money, but because I don't want him to be sedated and taken care of by a bunch of people I don't know so I get an idea.

I find a storage box big enough fill it with warm better that has to be warm and soothing the sorest of butt holes you know. I am afterall a thoughtful mother!

holding him down in the water was like trying to ride a steel bull. Matt held him down with both hands me with one hand and took a washrag and I started to wipe the fanny. It loosened it up to where I was about to get 70% of the poo off his tail.

A poor dad who has no stomach to deal with kitty poo---- useless
a kid who can't stand to hear a cat squal and caterwall---useless
hair cutters- twenty five bucks I didn't have to spend
bucket to hold cat butt in-- we're getting better
Mother who went through all of this- PTSD and freaking priceless. I will have nightmares about doing this again tomorrow! (ha so will the Monster!)

And how was YOUR day?

Windy, I don't have the poo end problem, but I can relate to the ungroomed long-haired cat. I have one from the pound - what a mess! I have figured out a brilliant way to remove the mats, and I am so proud of myself for having figured it out, I feel like I should post on Heloise. Not sure it will help for your back-end problem though.

I use a letter-opener, the plastic kind they sell at office supply stores. It's a plastic holder with a razor blade in it. I insert the pointy end and slice through the mat, no chance in the world of hurting the cat with it like scissors. My old guy doesn't seem to mind it a bit.

My problem with this old guy is the spraying. He's fixed and all, but still he sprays in the house. I'd send him back to the pound if he wasn't so darn sweet. I could make him an outdoors-only cat, but feeding him outdoors would draw all kinds of unwanted wild animals to the house. The raccoons are bad enough, don't want to wake up to an unwanted black bear at the cat bowl. I hate the thought of regular meal times, I prefer to just leave the food bowl out all the time for the cats - their schedules aren't like mine. In the meantime, I use lots of disinfectant on his regular spray spots. Luckily, none of it is on the carpeted areas.

Cats and water just don't mix. How about wet wipes? Wipe and dispose. If the cat was as traumatized by the bath as the rest of the family, good luck repeating the act tomorrow.

Is it OK if I laugh at your misery? I'm glad I'm not the only one with cat traumas.

You go ahead and laugh sweetheart you couldn't possibly laugh more than I did!

Found the wet wipeys a little late. AFTER all that mess. Laughing

And the letter opener sounds RAD! I have that matting problem too.

I've had my baby since he was six weeks old and he turns six this year! Very Happy

But you can bet I went out and bought a shaver and as soon as I figure it out, he's getting shaved! ROFLMAO

His name is Monster===he earned it too by the way!

OK, now I'm REALLY laughing, 'cause all I can picture is your fluffy little monster with a bald little butt!!! I hope the other cats don't laugh too much - you know how cats hate to be embarrassed.
