Black and white sounds like OREO. I gave up chocolate for lent so I am into anything that reminds of the wonderful smooth taste of choclate.

Let us know how the house breaking goes. We are going to get a puppy this spring hopefully and the shih-tzus is on our list. I did not know that they were hard to house break though.

Good Luck with your puppy and give him a hug for me. You just gotta love that puppy breathe!! Now they definetly give unconditional love.

Yep, nothing like puppy breath and love to change/distract one's outlook.

From what I've read, shih tzus are stubborn when it comes to housebreaking.

I also thought of Oreo as well!

Hey Kat,

I almost got a pug but fell in love with my friend's shih tzus.

Actually, I like the name Gus. It's black and white and the combo on his face makes him look old. Gus sounds like an old man.

This name thing is killing me.

Congrats on the new puppy. I am so envious. I have a cat who thinks hes a dog!!

I miss walking dogs so I take out my friends four dogs. A shih-tzu, a lapso-apsu, a cairn terrier and a 9 month old miniature schnauzer. Yes, they are a handful. The Shih-tzu is the oldest and insists on making her own way around the lake...we all have to follow her at the end of the walk!!

Temperament:
Shih Tzus are known for being sturdy, attentive, energetic, and responsive dogs. They are best suited to being companion dogs, and are generally easy-going and affectionate. When in a playful mood, Shih Tzus can be feisty and mischievous. Because they are alert and attentive dogs, they make good watchdogs who are fond of barking. If surprised or startled, they can be snappish. Shih Tzus love attention and being spoiled. They are very clever and can be trained, although they are known to be stubborn and a trainer consequently needs to be very patient. Shih Tzus generally get along well with other pets and older children. They do not do well with babies or toddlers, as they have a strong sense of self-importance and can be jealous of little children.

Enjoy...you deserve it...I hope the cats adjust to the pup quickly. Names:

Miko - pronounced Me-ko or go to the link below for more names...

What a lovely time you both are going to have!

Call him anything but N (LOL)

PICTURES PLEASE IF POSSIBLE - I think you might have to upload them to a site like http://photobucket.com/

and then you'll have a URL that can be added - after the image

maybe the members have another idea of how to load up pictures.

Last time I decided to leave (I still haven't), I made a to do list. It included things like find a place to live, call my lawyer, get a valuation of the family business, and get a lab. So far, the only thing I've checked off is the lab. She's a beauty - a rescue from LA. It's a start, right? She loves me unconditionally, is very trustworthy, and will never let me down. I find peaceful moments walking her.

One of my dogs is a black/white shitzu/terrier mix named Will.

Or how about Hank?

I had a friend with a black/white jack russell - named Oreo.

Scout maybe? but maybe more suited for a larger dog.

Buy "the Dog Whisperer" by Cesar Milan or watch his show on National Geographic.

Your dog's behavior and state of mind will be a reflection on your mental state - peaceful/axious/etc- Many smaller dogs have a tendency to develop "napoleon" or little dog complex - fearful and barks endlessly at people and dogs that approach them - just read Ceasar or go to his website - the dog whisperer. My Will has the tendency to do this and because I adopted him when he was older, has been difficult to break him of it.

I have three dogs now - once had 4....

Dogs are the best. I had to put the sweetest, best dog I will ever have -- my 14 year old choc. lab -- to sleep 3 weeks ago. It is amazing how they adapt and respond to you and over their lifetime they just come to be in a groove with you and your emotions, and they get so sweet when they're old and gray too. Unconditional love at it's best. Puppies are a great fresh start and truly they mature into the most devoted animals ever. Man's best friend Smile

I am deliriously happy for you, The great gift of Unconditional Love is now yours. Good for you Lynn. I wish you many happy days with baby, I myself am a new Nana, and believe me puppies are every bit as much work as humans. WHAT A GREAT POST. CONGRATUALTIONS. I know my MITCH (cocker spanial) has helped me through the worst of this, and there is just so much joy in taking him out, HE'S TRULY GRATEFUL. I don't think there are any N dogs. I think God made them to show us humans how to love, have fun, Always, THeresa Laughing

So sorry Snowynight....

Choc labs are sooooooo gorgeous....looks and personality!

Pets are tough to let go of. I have two cats...talk about Ns....they aren't too happy with me write now...I see D&D coming on.....fine! they can be that way! Hopefully, they get over it....I'm sure they will.

Just having Foster or Riley (haven't made up my mind) for two days, I can't imagine anything happening to him.

Congratulations again on your new baby!

Nope, I have no clue as to a name. I've always maintained a policy of having someone I care about name my pets, and for over 20 years that's a task I've delegated to my stepdaughters. This way, every time I call my Rio kitty, I also have the fond memory of how the 2 of them decided to name her after a Duran Duran song they liked at the time, and can sing along, "Her name is Rio and she dances in the sand..."

Good luck!

Lynne

Thanks, that was nice of you to mention that. Can you imagine having this puppy with the N around? He would (Im speaking of how my two N's were) probably be jealous and mad that you are paying attention to something new. I know mine would try and sabatoge that somehow.

I remember when my daughter was first born. My N ex husband, would act like such a good Dad with her but left me doing everything. I was really nervous as a new Mother and he went golfing 3 days after she was born. I called his cell asking him to please come home as i needed help. He refused. He then began to stay out and then years later i found out he was doing drugs.

This last N was jealous of my daughter, which is nutty. Now its so nice to have a clear mind. Lastnight we stayed up till 2 am watching movies and i said to her isnt this cool we can do anything we want and no one can boss us around. Its great to feel that way again. Freedom.

PS: did you name him yet? Are you sticking with Foster? You mentioned you werent sure.
