i just watched a documentary on psychopaths. before then, i assumed psychopaths were bloodthirsty people like ted bundy, john wayne gacy, etc. i found out roughly 1 in 100 people in america is a psychopath.

i've had fleeting thoughts where i wanted to kill someone but i knew i would feel remorseful. since psychopaths don't feel remorse, what stops them from acting out these thoughts?

also, do psychopaths love their parents or other relatives? do they love their dogs?

if someone were to put a gun to a psychopath's head or threaten them in other ways, do they become fearful? do they feel genuine sadness and cry? if so, can they equate their own reactions to fearful situations with those of "normal" people? if they can, do they just not care about their reactions?

Hi and welcome.....I can see where youd be confused.......the general public DOES think psychopaths are all killers.......some are....I'd say most are NOT.......Not because they empathize with anyone other than therselves because they dont....psychopaths have too strong a desire to cause others pain...mostly emotional pain.....if they kill people they lose people to cause pain to....plus like my xnp always said...He didnt think I was worth going to prison See.....he cared sooooo ferkin m uch about HIMSELF...now thats the narcissist in him...all p's are narcissists....not all narcissists are psychopaths......hope this helped....

I lived with a psychopath for many years who was also very violent. I'd say that the reason they do not kill is because they need people to help them in life. Alone they are totally incapable and they see their partner as an object who basically does things for them.
My ex would lose his temper and things have got really bad at times and he'd even cry. But, the following day even if I was covered in bruises he'd conveniently forget what he had done. If I questioned anything(which was rare) he'd say it was in the past. By saying things were in the past, even if something had happened 30 minutes before, this would make him feel justified in what he had done.

You say many of these people don;t kill. I often wonder about the masses of women killed in domestic violence situations each year. I wonder how many of them were involved with a psychopath? I'm one of the lucky ones, I got out and am now married to a 'real'man who is gentle and kind.
