HEART SHAPED BOX

Look deep into my soul
and you will surely find
a half that longs to be whole
A heart shaped box, velvet lined

see me, touch me, need me, fill me
memorize my content
Breathe in my humidity
linger long on my scent

My shell seems very hard
confident and strong
an invincible protective guard
which couldn't be more wrong

Inside I am delicate
strength derived from inferiors
my contents are intricate
and weakens the exteriors

Careful not to take for granted
or handle my box too rough
Intend not to take advantage
As my surface is really not that tough

Mindful not to tear
Any delicate part
Handle me with care
If so, you will have my heart.

When the N first made contact with me, he said he had found this poem on the net and just knew it had to be me (I had posted it on a poetry website, he searched my name on the net and it came up). In hindsight - was this an open invitation for victimization or what?!?

Thank you T - i love the way you write too. Many times, you present a perspective that I never even thought about before. You've helped to 'reframe' my thought unhealthy thought patterns so many times - your posts have helped me more than you probably ever realized. THANK YOU! You are a true gift from God Very Happy

I really loved it so very true that the shell we outwardly project does not portray the inner feelings its justa scource of defence
Very well put thanks so much for sharing it.

Thank you Movedon. I am glad that you liked it.

Up until the experience with exN, writing has always been extremely theraputic for me - a means of expression through productive creativity. I thought I had 'lost' that outlet ... but now thinking it may be time now to re-visit it.
