Sleep paralysis

Postby Saxifraga on Tue Aug 11, 2009 12:47 pm

Have you ever waken up and realized you can't moove? You're awake but are stuck in the position your in and it seems for ever and you may even see a shadow next to you... a ghost? You may feel that someone is sitting on you, you can't breath, you may even see the person on top of you clearly and you can't do a thing! You can't move or speak, you're totally paralyzed. It's a night terror called Sleep Paralysis. Some people see themselves being moved away to someplace where creatures are around them poking and looking.... and a lot of people, not having a clue it's a night terror, think they are being abducted my aliens. And it's not weird that they would believe it because while in this state you feel very much awake, you can see and hear everything around you but you just can't move. I've woken up a few times compleatly paralized and I've tried to move, shake, turn my head and even call for help but nothing happens, I see a dark figure standing beside me but I know it's in my imagination and I'm not afraid but the situation may seem to take for ever, sometimes I've thought that I'm stuck for an hour but it may be just a few minutes. Once I went into the paralisys 6 timesin just one night and I was about to go crazy, lucky me it's not that bad and all I had to do was change beds and it was all sweat dreams after that. :D

Thanks Saxi!
For years I had to struggle to convince myself that no malicious spirit was sitting on my chest, having a cat sleep peacefully next to me helped - though just in case I would silently shout that Jesus is my lord and savior.
Finally one day I read about sleep paralysis and it was a huge relief, there was a scientific explaination and almost immediately sleep paralysis decreased drastically. When my narcissistic mother lived with me not surprisingly the sleep paralysis returned but not as frequently.

The last link was especially interesting, saying not to fight it but go along "for the ride". My sleep paralysis never involved out of body experience, perhaps that's the next stage.
