Hi Dr..
I understand that you suffer(ed?) from NPD. How did you become aware of this? What caused the introspection necessary to force you to admit it? My understanding of NPD is that the person never will admit to it, much less recover from it?
Also, are you aware of any "not-doings" for narcissim. I assume that you figured a way to deprogram the "doing" of NPD, in order to access your demons and wrestle them into the light of day. "Not-doings" that I thought would be theraputic for NPD would be repetitive unselfish anonymous giving, or wearing of a blindfold and being asked to ascertain what a given subject was feeling or thinking, and giving a reward/stroke when the narcissist "guesses" correctly. Perhaps the more the NPD stretches himself to "guess" correctly, the more he may actually obtain real awareness of "other".
It may sound simplistic, but it all began way back when these fundamental building blocks of socialization were being laid. Perhaps a simple solution to a rudimentary problem?
I work with problem animals, horses mainly, but other domestic animals as well. Many were mishandled when young and have malicious knee-jerk (often knee-kick) traits that can be undone with much patience and clever reconditioning. My personal opinion is that we humans are just smart animals, subject to the same influences in imprinting on a lesser or larger scale. If you don't work with animals, you won't appreciate how like us they really are fundamentally.
