Received a letter (no return address) in mail on Monday. It was from XN who owes me a substantial amount of money ($50k+). He'd basically made it clear some time back (quite nastily) he had no real intention (or means) of ever paying me back.
The letter contained a cheque for $400 and was accompanied by the following note:

Hi M,
Enclosed is a small cheque. I am currently living "UNDER CANVAS" in the bush so I have saved a few sheckles which I can send to you. Still on the dole for probably another few weeks. I hope all is working out OK for you.
Cheers "XN"

("Dole" is Aussie slang for unemployment benefit/ social security payment btw.)

XN is such a selfish, tight ar$$$ed b***d, he must be absolutely desperate for NS or something. "Poor Diddums" Evil or Very Mad

I have no real idea what 'prompted' this sudden 'largesse' and don't intend to find out.

If I could afford to knock back the money, I honestly would just rip the cheque up. Stuff it though. I'm going to deposit it and that's that. If he's looking for a 'response' , the only one he'll get will show up on his next bank statement when he sees cheque has been cashed.

Great plan, Milo. If negative communication wasn't also construed as supply by these wingnuts, perhaps you should send him a few cents along with a note saying, "Here's a quarter. Call someone who cares."

Definitely wont count on the funds until (if) cheque clears.

Wendell, the cost of a stamp, paper for note, envelope, phone call would be far more than he deserves. No doubt he's trying to pluck 'violin strings' elsewhere as well. I no longer dance to his tune however, lol.
