I can't get in to read the article. But since this is an article on personality disorder and impaired functioning, I must post to this.
I met the P stepdaughters when they were four and six. The four year old was totally difficult since before I met them. I insisted on therapy, because there was so much dysfunction and "off" things going on with them.
the four year old when angry, would try to kick out the windows in her room, or kick out the windows of the car, she would bite kick, scream, throw her body around, really go crazy about it. At five years old, in kindergarten, she assaulted her kindergarten teacher, and received three days suspection (in kindergarten!!). In first grade, she did it again. She sucked her thumb until she was well over 12. She was incontinent until she was about 12. I would tell her "when you are in school, you will be all grown up, and you won't have accidents anymore." And she would answer, "I won't have accidents in school. Because I don't want to look stupid. I'll only have themwhen I am at home."
These two children had special education teachers until they were reading at grade level, they were in therapy for 7 out of 9 years I was married to the exNP. And they could not get it together, they could not be functioning normally, at any time in those 9 years. Conduct disorder?/ Pshaw! ODD, probably . But after 7 years of therapy, don't you think someone would have figured it out?
These guys give new meaning to "impaired functioning".
