I'm doing some research and have seen repeated studies that people who have perpetrated cruelty/neglect to animals are 5 times as likely as the general population to be violent/dangerous to humans.

It seems from my reading that cruelty to animals is a hallmark Psychopath tendency, not necessarily one of the N's. Does this "issue" make an N a P, instead?

And, how accurate is that statistic? We all know there are lies, dam lies and statistics, so how worried does one have to be when dealing with an N who has, in their past, been cruel or fatally neglectful to animals? How does that translate to human risk?

I strongly advise against diagnosing people without being properly qualified to do so.

Only a qualified mental health diagnostician can determine whether someone suffers from a Personality Disorder and this, following lengthy tests and personal interviews.

As to your question:

Cruelty to animals, especially during childhood and early adolescence is, indeed, one of the precursors and presenting symptoms of the Antisocial Personality Disorder (psychopathy or sociopathy). But it is also common in other disorders - for instance in the Sadistic Personality Disorder and in Conduct Disorder.

Disorder)

But, what about if that cruelty/neglect to animals was caused by a mature adult? Is that better, or worse?

I would think that if a child did it, it's one thing...but an adult -- who should KNOW better (and in this case the animals were the children's PETS), that would be something entirely different?

My response applies to adults as well (actually, even more so).
