Malignant Self Love - Narcissism Revisited

Postby sara on Sun Feb 25, 2007 4:00 am

I don't know if everyone has already read Sam Vaknin's book "Narcissism Revisited", but it was the first book I bought on narcissism. It goes into great detail on narcissism. Reading this book helped me to quit blaming myself and explained the thinking of a narcissist. The more knowledge we have, the more enpowered we are.

thanks,
sara

The chapters of this book that are available on-line are what initially openend my eyes to Narcissism. I bought the book and it had both a posetive and negative (which I guess is posetive in hind sight) effect on me. It made me realise and understand what was going on, but also confused me (due to the fogginess inside an N's mind that it introduces one to...) and made me feel sick to understand how sick the games were, how I have been manipulated, the "nothingness" of the whole relationship to him and the waste it has been of my time, energy, affection, feelings and the comprimise of principles...but mostly sadness at the loss of me...Also of the danger in not being able to pull the cord once and for all.

I revisit parts of the book everytime I feel "weak" to remind myself of what I'm NOT missing out on....Definate recommend

For the past couple years, I've been reading the online version on and off. I finally broke down about 5 minutes ago and ordered the physical book (January 2007 revision); this will be my Christmas present to myself. I'm really looking forward to being able to annotate the book so I can let the cold, hard facts sink in. Since I'm LC with my NM, I'm still exposed to her subtle abuse; perhaps after reading the book, I'll feel justified to give myself the ultimate gift of NC ... guilt-free.

EDITED ON 12/2/09 TO ADD: I received the book today and I'm excited to read it!
"RetiredFromNM" means I'm "retired" from serving my narcissistic mother. Hooray!
