So, I basically read some more from the book( i just skip around when i'm at the bookstore), and i came across LUKE!! when i read about Luke, i had chills going down my spine.
Here's a little summary about Luke (from what i can remember) for those who did not read the book:
Dr. Stout talks about a patient that she describes as not pretty and very well educated with a P.H.D. In science and the works. Basically, her patient accepted that she was never going to meet anybody. At the age of 35, she meets a man named Luke. Luke told her that he was educated and had degrees, and she wondered why he was living in a very bad neighborhood in a small crappy apartment. I don't remember the book mentioning if Luke lied about his education or not, but the patient said it was uncanny that the man had a degree/educated and lived in such a horrible place. Anyways, basically the man moved in with her, had a baby(which he didn't even look at or cared for), and eventually just hung out and tanned by the pool all day. In the end, Dr. Stout says that the baby was the final insurance for the man to have "hooked" his victim and really show his true colors and his ultimate prize was to live a comfortable life hanging by the pool all day. They also slept in separate bedrooms, and when she "tried" to kick him out, he would play the PITY card on her.
I believe Dr. Stout wanted to give a portrayal and to demonstrate that not all sociopaths use you for money, cheat on you (however all forms of "using someone" is considered cheating to me), or kills you.
I really just want to know if this type of sociopath sound familiar to anyone? sure did for me.
