I don't know how much longer I will be staying with the board...it is still taking 3 minutes for me to get anywhere pretty often...sometimes even more...At daughters house they have a faster modem but then it's dependent on how good the kids are and I highly suspect daughter and son in law don't like me to be on the puter when I am there....Can't seem to win Can't afford any more than my dial up....anyway just in case any of you are wondering why I didnt reply to you that would be why.....when it takes that long I get too frustrated and shut the thing off.I'm sure too it all depends on the activity in the groups when I try...sometimes I have NO problems...other times SHIT Just keep it in mind my friends ok

Cookie, we don't care how long it takes you to respond to us.
Just please don't say you're leaving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
stillsmilen
PS.. I have to run to the grocery store, so if you write to me, and I don't respond right back that's why.

Cookie....I understand that would be frustrating, but I want to say that I think you are one of the BIGGEST symbols of STRENGTH this board has. Whether I am lurking or posting, I just see your strength pulling everyone else up! Are there any deals right now on a faster connection if you combine services, cable, phone, etc.?? There has to be an answer other than you being gone.

| Hate being a downer here but there just is NOTHING to combine....it's funny when the phone co calls me to 'see how they can save me $ by combining and because all I can afford is just the phone line and no xtras..well you can imagine they hang up real quick! Get this...my income is at the poverty level...but I dont pay any taxes thru the year on any of it...so at tax time I pay in DEARLY! and I'm at the poverty level! Daughter and her husband get lots back yet they make 6 times what I do....But just in case anyone is wondering my daughter and her husband PAY my taxes! It's sorta a benefit of my watching their girls...they also pay me in other ways as well so it's not like they are taking me for a ride...when all is said and done and I have no $ it will be this daughter who helps me out...she is all the xp left me with(and make no mistake...he tried to get her against me too) Some scary times are comming up for me $ wise....I dont want to leave the board....am praying it doesnt come to that.....but I am not kidding...I coulds fly to New York and back in the time it takes me to post!(oh alright....I am kidding but sheesh!)

| It is actually cheaper to have broadband here than dial up with most companies- what I mean is there are a lot of cheap internet co's who are cheaper than the likes of AOL etc

I understand Cookie. I get that you have a phone line and that's all you can afford. So be it. I had to do that for a long time.
It is possible that your modem in your computer is slowly breaking down. They do that. It is also possible that you ISP (internet service provider) is having problems. Call them and report you are having horrible LAG! Also, it could be that the telephone lines in your home are old or in need of repair. Even a nick on a wire somewhere can cause a short. Mice and other bugs/vermin/pets chew on wires. Check the phone cords that come from the wall and replace them if you even question damage.
Also, like lots of ISP's, they over load their systems. They have more customers than equipment. There could be router trouble between your ISP and the rest of the internet (or anywhere from you to the board). And the area that you live in might have old, old telephone lines/equipment. There's just some things that are out of your (or your ISP's) control.
I feel for you Cookie. Hang in there hon. Maybe try logging in during non-peak times, too.
HUGS!
Lemon

Got to make a pot of coffee and run to the bathroom in the time it took me to load the reply page LEMON....LEMON....LEMON....how DO you DO that? Every single time I've had a problem you come up with such good reasons or answers....Thanks Lemon! I live in a condo so that the phone lines(with the exception of inside my place) are outa my hands...the one and only time I called the phone co to fix static on my line they also killed off my modem...I know now to disconnect my puter if I need to call them....Could be the lines...I remember someone else having bad ph lines and their pc was running real slow....Could also be mice....ewwwwwwww wherever they might be...I do better during the week from daughters and they have dsl....but then theres the girls But I do try to get on when theyre busy with other things or napping. You know I LOVE to chat it up so doubt I will go anywhere very quickly....obviously I have a HIGH tolerence for frustration....I put up with xp for 36 LONG LONG LONG years And I enjoy this group so much right now...it really is a great group....hope no one comes in to spoil that Thanks again dear sweet Lemon!

Lukky, ummm, I have certain skills.
Check your PM's Cookie. The error you described could be causing your performance problems. Let me know! Have you emptied your browser history and cookies? Need to do that ocassionally, too. Also, have you defragged your hard drive lately?

Damn...not enuf laughing out louds over this one....Lemon...like smilen said...some of us are challanged and I would just happen to be one of the 'challanged' when it comes to computers The things you say to do might as well be in greek for me....heard them all.....don't have the 1st clue how to do any of them....Have NO ONE who can help...that being said I'd need to hire someone to do this stuff and then were back talking $ again....OMG I can't even figure out how to get an avator Very pc illeterate here....Thanks for the advice and I would agree with you on all of it.....My pc is less than 2 yrs old(which I know is old for a pc) but it's all I will ever have. My isp is netzero dial up and if I can swing it the netzero high speed is just 10 more a month......If my pc doesnt get faster soon I will need to figure out where to steal the money from outa an already tight budget! Thanks Lemon..Thanks to you ALL!

Cookie,
I'm sure Lemon can verify if what I'm saying is correct or not. It's really easy to clean up temp files and defrag.
Go to the start button, mine is in the left hand corner of my display screen. Click on "All Programs" then look for "Accessories". Click on that and then look for "System Tools". Click on that, then a list will appear that includes "Disk Cleanup" and "Disk Defragmenter". I always do the clean up before I defrag, not sure if it matters or not. I assume if I rid the computer of things it doesn't need that there is less to defrag. Each option/tool may take a while depending on your computer and how long it's been since either of these have been done.
Hope this helps,

Correct Legend. Delete all the files first and then defrag.
Also, there's another way to delete the history, temporary files and cookies in your browser (i.e. Internet Explorer, Netscape, Firefox, Mozilla, etc). Go to tools , internet options, and under the general tab, just hit the delete options.
