Dear Dr. Vaknin,
I've noticed that he's been in the phase again where he totally ignores everything and everyone around him. This phase usually lasts a few weeks and occurs several times a year. What he does is laying around, eating, sleeping, surfing the internet, and posting in forums all day. Usually he prefers to interact with people online than in real life. He doesn't like to go out at all. The more we worry about him the more he ignores us and and acts as if we don't exist at all and gives us the silent treatment.
What is going on in his narcissistic mind during that phase?
How should people around him behave when he's in such a phase? Just leave him alone for weeks? When he leaves that phase he acts normal again as if he was never in such a phase.

Some narcissists withdraw completely from a world populated with such minacious and ominous objects (really projections of internal objects and processes). They avoid all social contact, except the most necessary.

The Reality Renouncing Solutions
The narcissist renounces reality. To his mind, those who pusillanimously fail to recognize his unbound talents, innate superiority, overarching brilliance, benevolent nature, entitlement, cosmically important mission, perfection, etc. - do not deserve consideration.
