I read embedded in a book review the other day an interesting tidbit I thought I would pass along for us all to test.

You know how it is when someone in a room yawns which then makes you yawn? Well apparantly not everyone responds with a yawn in kind. The more emphathetic you are the more likely it is that you will yawn in response (Me .... I yawn when some just mentions yawning which gives you a clue to my personality! Laughing )

If this is true I bet that an "N" doesn't yawn........next time I have the chance (but maybe I never will - fingers crossed) I am going to test this out. For those of you that still need to see the N....give it a shot and report back.

What a great "N" test if it works huh? Maybe Sailor can add this to his device??

OMG! Your post made me yawn! Seriously. How weird is that? OK, well, I haven't finished my morning coffee yet, but still!

cangel, many thanks for the tip, I will of course give you a cut of the enormous profits which I will make from my N radar detector. Although I have suffered two disasters with the prototype, I do still have the original blue prints. Let's see now: I have to add some dog hairs as my dog's hairs rose up when D's N approached. I now have to incorporate a yawning device to see if the suspect N is triggered to yawn in response. When you told me this I was just busy designing a constant joke telling device to add to the detector as it is well known that Ns do not have a normal sense of humour. So, apart from the N gripping the positive and negative high voltage electrodes, if the dog hairs are seen to rise, and the suspect does not yawn in response and does not even smile at basic jokes, then he truly is an N. At this point the mains electricity switch will automatically be activated to give the N's brain a therapeutic shock. (at least)

Sailor....glad to contribute. As for my cut of the enormous profits how about you just roll those back into research and development! Though I do realize that since Ns are so predictable and one dimensional there may come a day when all innovation will come to an end.

You are on to something big with the lack of humor indicator.....what about adding a lie detector as well? Or do you think this would overload the circuits?

Lie detector? Ns telling lies? What's all this about? My D's N was telling only the truth when he said he tried to strangle her in self defence. The scratches on his arm clearly proved this and could not possibly have resulted from her desperately trying to free herself. I mean, after all, he did photograph the scratches immediately to prove his point. He was also telling the truth when he said that she herself held her cheek extremely close to a hot iron. She obviously wanted to burn herself so he bravely got hold of the iron to move it away from her cheek. Neither was he lying when he supposedly attacked his subsequent girl friend in her house. The fact that as soon as she got out of the house with him allegedly punching her head, HE started shouting 'Help, she's attacking me', clearly shows what a good honest chap he is. No, I'm sorry, I can't include a lie detector in my machine, we don't want any miscarriage of justice here do we? We must protect the Ns at all costs from such scurrilous accusations.

What was I thinking!! Slap to the head. You know I am thinking of working on a sister device - an N appreciation machine. Whenever an N is detected in it's presence it will present the N with a crown, certificate of perfection, pipe up with some honorable march music (here comes the King...a presidential thing....something very grandious), a red carpet will roll out, spot light will turn on and then the N can prance back and forth on his(her) red carpet and soak in attention from the gathered crowd.

Do you think I would need to fabricate a fake crowd as well......really people might just laugh their a$$es off?

Emperor's new clothes: right on cangel!!! Very Happy

With a whole bunch of enablers, and it took a child - the "fool" to point out the fact that the king had no clothes on, and gradually the enablers dropped the pretense and then the king had to face the truth of his situation!

brilliant comparison by the way!

I like the Emporer's new clothes comparison, it's brilliant.
Now here's a question, but I'll give you the background first:
Each year in UK around Christmas time we have 'Pantomimes' on the theatres. I'm not sure if you have the eqivalent in U.S. It's harmless entertainment for kids where they throw custard pies around etc. and they are loosely based on Cinderella or Alladin. Every panto has a part where the cast get the kids involved with a sort of game. They say something about, let's say, Cinderella and then they start one side of the audience chanting "Oh yes she is" then the other side of the audience say "Oh no she's not" and so it goes on to and fro.
Now, imagine two people saying 'yes it is' then 'no it's not' like this:
a) yes it is
b) no it's not
a)yes it is
b) no it's not
a) yes it is
b) no it's not
Which one is the N?
Prizes will be awarded to all correct answers.

Sailor,

You are too clever for me.....and I have been overthinking a response to the question to the point that I am brain dead......Sure wish I had a custard pie to "throw" at the situation.

All 'phone lines are now closed and the answer was: b) the last one is the N, because all Ns HAVE to get the last word in.
The major prize was a world cruise with all expenses paid but unfortunately this cannot be awarded. Cangel will recieve a consolation prize as she was the only entrant. She is awarded the cost of a rowing boat ride around the local park lake. So much for my Christmas party game.

Thank you for the consolation prize - the correct answer was Sooooooooo obvious!

Tell you what I will make a picnic lunch if you want to come row with me...no pie though wouldn't want to be tempted.

I think that if you really want more participation the fun folks are up in the Anything Goes in the Psychopath area at the moment....they are having a blast up there re-writing Christmas Carols, posting pictures....check it out!
