Hi all ... well, I posted this to cookie, but I thought I'd take the opportunity to sort of use you all as a "confessional" ... of sorts. I've been away from my X/NH for 4 years and divorced for almost 2, after 40 years of marriage and two weeks ago I bought for myself a very nice Christmas present .... I got a beautiful gold necklace - 3 colors of gold (white, yellow, and rose), very delicate, and just lovely. I got it at one of our town's oldest and probably most upscale jewelry store ... they wrapped it for me and it's sitting waiting for Christmas. "The little kid" is chomping at the bit to open it, but I won't ... not until Christmas. Anyhow, it's sort of a "reward" to me for surviving Mr. N for all those years and for making it through in a much more peaceful and content way than I ever imagined possible. And ... I guess it's better than that 50 lb. bag of M&M's!!!!!!!
Take care, abby _________________ <*)))><

Littlecat,
That's beautiful! In my family growing up, you were never to buy jewelry for yourself. My dad would buy us jewelry, but after he died, I went almost 15 years without any jewelry except for a watch. I had to buy the watches myself because I knew I couldn't get by without one.
Three very abusive relationships later, I now realize it's insanity. I purchased a beautiful ring for myself and I am proud to show it to anyone!
My stepfather grew up in a very abusive home. As a child he was never allowed to play. He and my 6-year old daughter play all the time now. I think he loves playing Barbie more than she does. _________________ "The problem with women is that they get all worked up over nothing and then they marry him." --Cher

Hi Lived! Good for you! What does your ring look like? I think, after surviving the N nightmare, which came on top of often a very abusive childhood, we owe it to ourselves to give ourselves a treat! Whatever that means for everyone - it can be jewelry, a meal out, a vacation, or a bag of M&M's (te-he) .... whatever makes us smile and treat ourselves.

It's a silver ring, heart shaped with a heart-shaped stone -- with a diamond on each side of the stone. The stone is light blue. It is suppose to be the color of Princess Diana's eyes. It's very unusual. I did not pay much for it but it's quite a conversation piece. I love it and I love what it means to me -- I can do something for myself. It's healthy to treat myself occassionally. I'm trying to shed my old "martyr" skin I guess. _________________ "The problem with women is that they get all worked up over nothing and then they marry him." --Cher

Is it a blue topaz? That's one of my favorite stones. Enjoy it ... you've earned it!

I don't know if it's blue topaz or not.
I have to be honest, I don't know much about gemstones. It does seem an unusual color. It's a little bit to dark to call it light blue, but still several shades lighter than sapphire. My mother loves sapphires, so that's really the only blue gemstone I am familiar with... _________________ "The problem with women is that they get all worked up over nothing and then they marry him." --Cher
